The Colorado State Land Board has an immediate opening for an Ecosystem Services Student Intern this summer. The Intern will work between 30-40 hours per week. Starting and ending dates are flexible. This position pays $20/hour.Ã‚Â
The Intern will work on water, biodiversity and carbon market research. There is the opportunity for fieldwork if the intern is interested.
WATER MARKET: Conduct water market demand investigation for wetland and stream mitigation credits throughout Colorado using the HUC-8 watershed boundaries.
- Call counties, state agencies, utilities (such as Denver Water, Big Thompson Water Project) to learn about planned capital improvement projects that will require wetland mitigation credits.Ã‚Â
- Distill collected information to prioritize HUC-8 watersheds for more in-depth analysis of state trust lands containing wetlands to see if they have potential for wetland mitigation banks.
- Identify SLB trustland parcels in High Demand Watersheds with high, medium and low potential for wetland mitigation.
BIODIVERSITY MARKET: Assemble collected field data on Lesser Prairie Chicken habitat and identify potential for mitigation opportunities on state trust lands. Ã‚Â
- Review existing wildlife conservation plans and determine specific SLB strategy for capturing/applying for mitigation potential.
- Review collected field notes and data from Lesser Prairie Chicken rapid field assessments to assess potential for mitigation. Ã‚Â
CARBON MARKET: Ascertain potential for carbon sequestration on state trust lands through four low-generation sources.
- Research measures used to quantify potential carbon assets: Forest Management and Forestry, Agricultural soil, Grassland management/Livestock, Biomass
- Apply carbon quantification measures on state trust lands.
