Executive Director, Biodiversity Conservation Alliance

The Biodiversity Conservation Alliance seeks an Executive Director with strong development skills and an extensive background in community outreach and relationship building. Also important are a thorough understanding of Wyoming wildlife issues and wildlife habitat management principles as well as relevant laws and regulatory mechanisms, an in-depth understanding of resource management issues and wild lands and the agencies administering them. Primary responsibilities include overall planning and implementation of fundraising, finance, administration, public relations and staff supervision and development.


The Executive Director (ED) serves at the pleasure of the board. The duties and responsibilities of the ED would be allocated to development, administration and program work:


Lead responsibility for creation and implementation of annual development plan. Primary Responsibilities: Achievement of annual fundraising goals. Major donor and foundation cultivation, relationship-building, and solicitation Coordinating with staff and board in preparation and implementation of development plan. Developing and maintaining positive relations with all individual, corporate and foundation donors and donor prospects With Business Manager: Developing and implementing member recruitment and retention plan. Conducting grant research, preparation, submission and strategy. Supporting Business Manager in coordinating event planning and implementation.


  1. Responsibility for all aspects of staff management including preparation of job descriptions; hiring, supervising, developing and discharging employees; conducting regular staff meetings and ensuring that summaries are provided to the board; annual performance evaluations;
  2. Coordinating with the board to set staff compensation and benefits.
  3. Working together with the board to review and implement personnel policies.
  4. Working with the Business Manager to prepare and present the budget and quarterly budget reviews for board action. Coordinating with the Business Manager to ensure that day-to-day financial matters are handled in accordance with board directives and the budget.
  5. Supervising, and ensuring, the preparation of an annual report. Serving as primary interface among staff, board and the general public.
  6. Assist with board member recruitment and orientation.
  7. Attend all board and board committee meetings as requested.


Supervise and coordinate BCA’s three program areas:

  1. Wild Species
  2. Wild Deserts and Grasslands
  3. Wild Forests

Serve as primary staff for the Wild Deserts and Grasslands Program.


  1. Extensive non-profit experience including development and related aspects of fund raising.
  2. Degree in business management, biological sciences or law is desirable.
  3. Experience in staff administration, budgeting and long-term financial planning for non-profits, or similar experience.
  4. Demonstrated initiative, and conscientious work habits.
  5. Working knowledge with personal computers and basic programs such as Word, Excel and email management.
  6. Experience in team-based work structure and ability to cooperate and collaborate with staff.
  7. Excellent time management and communication skills.
  8. Passion for our mission, collegial and respectful, ability to work well with both traditional and non-traditional allies. Ability to establish a positive tone and morale among staff and volunteers.
