Junior Consultant (m/f) Energy and Climate

Project Description:

GFA ENVEST as an affiliated company of GFA Consulting Group has specialized in climate mitigation issues, focusing on the development of projects according to the regulations of the Kyoto Protocol. Key sectors are renewable energy and energy efficiency, waste, bio-energy, and forest-climate projects. Further, the company offers consultancy services for a wide range of climate change issues like advise on climate change strategies (both for public and private clients), Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)/Joint Implementation (JI) mechanisms, development of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects etc.
 
Due to the increasing demand from our private and public clients, we want to strengthen our core team based in Hamburg by a further Junior Consultant on climate change issues.
 

Job Description:
The Junior Consultant will be based in Hamburg and will work in close coordination with the other staff members of GFA ENVEST, focussing primarily on the preparation and implementation of studies and projects related to energy and climate change. Tasks include:

  • Preparation of expression of interest, technical and financial proposals for a variety of studies and projects related to energy and climate change
  • General advisory services to different clients related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change
  • Execution of short-term missions and studies
  • Evaluation of project proposals in view of the climate relevance
  • Elaboration of Project Identification Note (PIN) and Project Design Documents (PDDs)
  • Provision of technical backstopping services for ongoing studies and projects

Qualifications:
  • University degree in a relevant field (energy, climate change, environmental issues, etc.)
    Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in at least one of the following fields:
  • renewable energy and energy efficiency, climate change mitigation (CDM/JI); Experience in several of the fields is a definitive plus
  • Work experience in developing countries / economies in transition desired
  • Knowledge of the Kyoto protocol mechanisms and experience in the elaboration of PDDs will be an advantage
  • Excellent communication and team coordination skills
  • Fluency in English is a must, further language skills (preferably Russian) an advantage, German language skills are mandatory
  • EU work and residence permit
  • Willingness to carry out frequent short-term assignments and backstopping missions

Job Description:
The Senior Expert will be based in Hamburg and will work in close coordination with the other staff members of GFA ENVEST, focussing primarily on consultancy assignments in the energy sector. Tasks include:
  • Active acquisition of consultancy services including the preparation of expressions of interest, execution of fact-finding missions and elaboration of technical and financial proposals in the energy sector for a variety of international development organisations (principally EU, EBRD, KfW, GTZ, German Ministries)
  • Planning, coordination and follow-up of ongoing projects and studies including the provision of technical backstopping missions services for ongoing studies and projects
  • Supervision of experts in the field
  • Execution of technical short-term consultancy missions in the field of energy and climate.
  • Elaboration of concepts, presentations and contribution to knowledge and quality management.
  • Development of networks and engaging in client and partner management (maintaining and establishing professional relationships with donor agencies, beneficiaries, partner companies or institutions, subcontractors, individual experts

Qualifications:
  • University degree in relevant field of environment or technical sciences
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the relevant sector (energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy policies and legislation)
  • Additional experiences in climate change, GHG emissions, Kyoto protocol mechanisms etc. are an advantage
  • Proven experience in the field of international development cooperation
  • Good knowledge of procedures within the context of international development cooperation
  • Excellent communication and team coordination skills
  • Work experience in developing countries and/or economies in transition is a must
  • Fluency in English is a must, further language skills in Russian, Spanish or French are an advantage; German language skills are mandatory
  • EU work and residence permit
  • Willingness to carry out frequent short-term assignments and backstopping missions
