Responsible Forestry Coordinator Global Forest & Trade Network

Key requirements:

  • At least a Bachelors degree in forestry, and preferably an advanced degree in forestry or a related discipline
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience with a track record in the global forestry industry (ideally having experience in natural commercial tropical forest management);
  • Fully conversant with all aspects of forest certification, and ideally with hands on experience with the stepwise approach to responsible forest management;
  • Excellent knowledge of global forestry and conservation issues (e.g. policy, market trends, evolving issues);
  • Proven experience as an effective manager working within a decentralized, multi-national network (or programme);
  • Experience of innovating, adapting and improving systems within a commercial or market related context to achieve strategic objectives; and
  • Experience in partnership relations management, fundraising and marketing. Familiarity of working with governments, aid agencies, and NGOs.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, motivate and develop multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams and individuals;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and presentation skills;
  • Programme management experience and excellent interpersonal skills; and
  • Willingness to travel to remove places and relocate.

WWF South Africa – 5 Senior Positions

Executive Manager: Operations

Assist the CEO with the day-to-day management of WWF South Africa and develop and implement processes and systems to improve efficiencies and alignment with organisational strategy. You will report directly to the CEO and oversee the organisation’s delivery on its strategy, general conservation grant-making functions and provide a conduit of reporting to the CEO for various cross-cutting initiatives and activities hosted on behalf of the WWF global network.

Requirements: more than 5 years’ experience running the operations of a complex business or organisation; post-graduate qualification in business and/or environmental sciences.MBA advantageous.

Head: Biodiversity

Responsible for the overall coherence, design and leadership of all WWF South Africa’s biodiversity-focused programmes and projects. You will report directly to the CEO and lead a strong dedicated team towards achieving WWF South Africa’s conservation objectives.

Requirements: Masters level qualification (PhD advantageous) in conservation biology or a related discipline. 
Strong ability to lead with at least 7 years experience in managing staff and overseeing operational responsibilities of a team of more than 10 professionals.
An existing profile and track record of delivery in the field of biodiversity conservation at a national level.

Senior Programme Manager – 3 positions

The following three senior management positions require sound leadership capabilities, conservation knowledge and skills to provide strategic guidance and management of the programmes that deliver against a diverse portfolio of WWF South Africa’s conservation programmes. Each of these programmes is targeted for significant further development during the coming year and report directly to the Head of Biodiversity.

• Senior Manager: Sustainable Agriculture

Oversee and provide thematic leadership to the Sustainable Agriculture Programme.

• Senior Manager: Marine

Oversee and provide thematic leadership to the Marine Programme.

• Senior Manager: Fresh Water Programme

Oversee and provide thematic leadership to the Fresh Water Programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee effective project cycle management processes for the programme
  • Participate in corporate relations management processes linked to the relevant programme
  • Manage reporting and alignment processes for the programme
  • Assist with staff development, mentorship and transformation of the staff linked to the programme

Requirements: Masters level qualification or higher in conservation biology or related discipline with a demonstrable understanding of the relevant programmatic theme. 
Ability to lead and inspire with at least 5 years relevant management experience, specifically in overseeing operational responsibilities.
