Paid internship: relationship manager/administrator – Low Carbon Hub

Summary

The Low Carbon Hub is new social enterprise based in Oxford, set up to help communities across Oxfordshire tackle climate change through local activities and projects. We work with communities to develop renewable energy projects and to support energy reduction in households and community buildings. Through our website (www.lowcarbonhub.org) and events we bring communities togetherto network, provide guidance and expertise, and share experiences and best practice. We work closely 
with the Community Action Group (CAG) network to engage with a range of low carbon community groups, all doing different things and at different stages of development. We expect to be engaging with community groups in a number of ways over the next six months:
o to develop a small group of pilot renewable energy projects, for solar PV and micro-hydro;
o to market a public share offer to raise investment for renewable energy projects;
o to develop a community offer and recruit households for retrofit programmes (likely to include the upcoming ‘green deal’);
o to market our ‘People’s Power Station’ – a virtual power station hosted online, showing 
 
Oxfordshire’s progress in ‘powering up’ and ‘powering down’, and encouraging households, communities and businesses to submit case studies.

The Role

We are looking for a full-time intern to provide the ‘glue’ for our team and activities – to support the team, run the office, and help develop and maintain effective relationships with our growing network of communities. Responsibilities are likely to include:
  • Relationship Management (working to our Communications Manager)
o Develop and maintain our database to build a picture of which communities are doing what; assess needs; ensure leads are passed through to Community Energy pipeline team and Community Retrofit team.
o Make personal connections with community leaders and build trust/raise profile of Hub/ensure 
a two-way flow.

o Coordinate a series of marketing meetings with community groups to promote the Low Carbon Hub and its work, and to consult on and promote the People’s Power Station and public share offer.
o Promote retrofit and other community offers as they develop.
o Maintain close contact with Community Action Group (CAG) network and develop joint working.
o Plan, manage and organise community events.
o Maintain a central calendar of Hub activity. 
o Attend community-run events on behalf of Hub.
o Develop a streamlined system for responding to all external contacts to the Hub ie. first point of contact for enquiries; signposting to the right person; adding to mailing list.
o Quality control of records relating to our stakeholders.

  • Administrative 
o Develop and maintain a system for office management, eg. document storage protocol; computers/printers.
o Co-ordinate housekeeping/day-to-day running of our office.
o Coordinate training courses, book venue, liaise with trainers/facilitators, take bookings.
o Develop media database and contacts for the Low Carbon Hub.
o Support the team as necessary.
o Administrative support for the Low Carbon Hub website.
o Co-ordinate weekly team meetings.
  • Skills & attributes required
o Interest in environmental issues.
o Organisational skills and attention to detail.
o Computer skills ie Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint (experience of WordPress preferable but not essential).
o Excellent communications skills and familiarity with social media: LinkedIn; Facebook; Twitter.
o Great people person – passionate about networking and putting people in touch.
o Able to work flexibly at times to attend community events some evenings and weekends.
