Practice Area Team Leader, Climate Change Adaptation – Engility

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Engility Corporation, building on IRG’s legacy in international development, seeks an experienced Practice Area Team Leader, Climate Change Adaptation to join the Agriculture, Climate, and Natural Resources (ACNR) Business Area within Engility’s International Development Services Group (IDSG).  

 

Job Summary:

 

The successful candidate will join our ACNR Business Area to lead the organization’s business development and ongoing USAID programs in climate change adaptation, resilience, urban infrastructure, and environmental services. The Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Practice Team Leader ensures overall leadership to a dedicated home office team, oversees on-going relevant contracts, drives efforts to capture new business in existing and adjacent markets and engages in technical and thought leadership activities.  This position reports to the ACNR Business Area Director and works in close collaboration with other ACNR Business Area members, project partners, clients and other IDSG Divisions. Regular travel is required, occasionally with short notice and for extended periods.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Business Development:

  • Lead the definition and implementation of a strategy to expand IDSG’s business in the areas of climate change adaptation, resilience, urban development, and environmental issues
  • Work with the Business Development team to prioritize and supervise new business opportunities and expenditures
  • Build and manage proposal teams in pursuit of new business
  • Represent Engility at meetings, conferences and in communications with current and prospective new clients
  • Support definition of targets and content for relevant communications and marketing
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Ensure that information about our opportunity pipeline is accurate and up-to-date

 

   Technical Assistance:

  • Provide thought leadership in climate change issues both internally and externally expand Engility’s technical reputation in the broader climate change sector
  • Participate in short-term assignments as required on projects, both domestically and overseas
  • Interact with clients on technical issues associated with projects
  • Propose necessary activity and deliverable changes and innovations

 

   Project Management:

  • Serve as Engility Headquarters supervisor for projects in the broader climate change adaptation and urban development sector
  • Provide guidance to Project key personnel, for completion of overall contract objectives and activities
  • Supervise activities of Headquarters professional staff assigned to the Climate Change Adaptation Practice
  • Plan, manage and oversee project budget and LOE expenditures
  • Plan, manage and oversee preparation of primary project deliverables and timely submission to relevant parties
  • Identify/anticipate long-range activities and problems/constraints of the project, key personnel and the client
  • Participate in the design and recommendation of policies and approaches for implementing project and corporate work

 

Team Management and Mentoring:

  • Provide direct supervision to all staff members of the CCA team
  • Identify, organize and plan resources and staffing of the CCA Team
  • Lead tracking of performance against revenue, profit and billability goals for the CCA Team
  • Participate in Business Area leadership meetings
  • Responsible for review of performance of CCA Team staff members including relevant project-dedicated staff
  • Work with Business Area Director and HR to promote on-going mentorship and development of junior staff

 

MINIMUM TANGIBLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Master’s degree in an area relating to climate change, urban development, or environmental issues
  • 10 years of relevant experience in climate change, urban development, and other relevant technical sectors
  • Experience managing diverse teams
  • Experience working on international / overseas assignments in developing countries
  • Previous USAID experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to technical issues and programs
  • State-of-the-art knowledge in related areas including climate change, urban development, and environmental infrastructure
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Software Experience: MS Office
  • Proficient in English

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • GIS usage
  • Experience using business developing tracking software such as GovWin
  • Working competency in another language
