ICF Marbek’s Western Canadian office, located in Calgary, Alberta, provides a range of consulting services in energy and environmental analysis and compliance, specifically working with greenhouse gas regulation. Our clients include private energy and utility companies, emission reduction project developers and provincial and municipal governments.

Job Description:

To support our growth, we have an immediate opening in our Calgary office for a project manager in our Canadian Energy and Carbon Markets Division. The Environmental Manager will contribute to business development and project work through the development of innovative, timely and high quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff locally and regionally.

This position provides an opportunity to further develop ICF Marbek’s established range of services in greenhouse gas compliance and policy development, environmental assurance, renewable energy, energy efficiency and other growing markets in Western Canada.

The chosen candidate will have a strong technical background and a thorough understanding of climate change regulation in North America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and finalize projects on schedule and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of ICF Marbek team members across the firm in order to deliver projects according to plan.

  • Play a key role in managing and building mutually beneficial relationships with existing clients while furthering business development efforts for Western Canada.

  • Requires collaborative work with the marketing and technical groups across Canada and the Western U.S. to coordinate business development activities including positioning in advance of client requests for proposals (RFP) to maximize win potential; actively contributing to the proposal process; and meeting regularly with current and potential clients.  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in science or engineering in an area of study related to the environment

  • 7+ years of experience working in engineering, environmental compliance or general consulting

  • 5+ years of experience as a project manager with strong client management skills

  • Willingness to travel

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Masters degree in business, engineering or science

  • Demonstrable record of client stewardship and business development accomplishments

  • Understanding of regional and North American climate change policy including WCI and Alberta’s SGER

  • Industry experience in oil & natural gas extraction and processing or electricity generation

  • Experience managing environmental assurance projects

  • Operational skills including finance, workload management, and staffing are a strong plus and could present related opportunities for growth

 Professional Skills:

  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills

  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and client confidential information

  • Ability to apply detailed knowledge of organizational procedures to make independent decisions and serve as a credible resource for a senior management team

  • Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors

  • Excellent problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions
