Forest Trends is an international non-profit organization that works to expand the value of forests to society. We work to promote sustainable forest management and conservation by creating and capturing market values for ecosystem services; to support innovative projects and enterprises in these new markets; and to enhance the livelihoods of local communities living in and around critical ecosystems. We analyze strategic market and policy issues, catalyze connections between forward-looking producers, communities and investors, and develop new financial tools to help markets work for conservation and people.

We are seeking a talented and energetic staff accountant to join our Finance Team and take on a broad range of responsibilities with a focus on Accounts Payable, Project Audits, and Payroll. The Staff Accountant will also support the financial reporting, grant reporting, and tax compliance functions, working as an integral part of the Finance Team with our staff across our exciting programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Processing Accounts Payable and other tasks – to include monitoring Finance inbox/ folders and coordination of 1099-Misc.
  2. Processing staff Time & Expense reports.
  3. Assist with Month-End closing process.
  4. Providing assistance with financial reporting.
  5. Processing semi-monthly payroll through third-party processor – to include review of quarterly/annual payroll tax reports and W-2s.
General Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain and organize historical records, vendor files, bank reconciliations and journal entries.
  2. Generate and review grant reporting for accuracy and compliance.
  3. Provide support for grant project audits and annual organizational audit.
  4. Assist with Accounts Receivable process.
  5. Ad-hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/ Finance or Equivalent with 2-5 years of experience.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and third-party payroll processing.
  • Non-profit accounting experience with an understanding of federal grant accounting and procurement rules and regulations.
  • Committed to the mission of Forest Trends.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with Quickbooks and Serenic Navigator/Microsoft Dynamics NAV,  preferred
  • Strong and effective communications and inter-personal skills.
  • High energy, self-starter, strong work ethic and attention to detail.
