Sustainable Development Officer (Low Carbon Behaviours)

Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) is one of Scotland’s leading environmental charities. We promote action on sustainable development and climate change, sustainable development education and local environmental quality. KSB has recently secured funding from the Scottish Government to develop and run a new project for public sector organisations on low carbon behaviours. The project will promote the use of the Scottish Government’s low carbon behaviours framework and the application of the Individual, Social and Materials (ISM) Tool. The project forms part of the Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) which is a highly respected sustainable development initiative, working with, and providing support to, professionals in local government and the wider public sector.

This is an exciting new project for KSB and SSN.  The project will include the provision of tailored support to local authorities and public sector organisations, including national events, printed and online materials, outreach and direct engagement with public sector organisations. The project will provide facilitated workshops on low carbon behaviours and the ISM tool, and support to help public sector organisations to develop low carbon behavior action plans.

Reporting to the Sustainability & Climate Change Manager, the Sustainable Development Officer (Low Carbon Behaviours) will be the lead development officer on the new SSN project on low carbon behaviours and the ISM Tool. The development officer will be responsible for developing and implementing a project plan, including the development of project resources, the promotion of the project to public sector organisations, the organisation and running of training events and facilitated workshops, provision of advice and support and direct engagement with public sector organisations to facilitate uptake and use of the ISM Tool in the development of low carbon behaviour action plans. The officer will also be responsible for producing case studies of good practice and monitoring and evaluating the impact of the project. The development officer will work with public sector professionals from a range of grades (managers and officers), and will work closely with representatives from the Scottish Government and the SSN Steering Group.

Applications are sought from candidates who feel that they have the necessary skills, experience and qualifications to undertake this role.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for action on climate change and low carbon behaviours, an understanding of behaviour change theories and methods, excellent facilitation and group-work skills, and well-developed project management and implementation experience. Knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of public sector organisations is also valuable, as is the ability to work positively with project teams, colleagues and a wide range of project participants and stakeholders.
