Team Leader for Xepian REDD+ Project in Southern Laos

Main tasks
  • Leading the implementation of a REDD+ project in Xepian National Protected Area
  • Institutional strengthening of the park administration and building the human capacity of park staff and implementation partners
  • Improving law enforcement and patrolling in the project area
  • Promote alternative income generation opportunities (e.g. ecotourism, NTFP marketing, agroforestry, woodlots, land use intensification) for the local population in the buffer zone
  • Set-up and implement an internal monitoring system to quantify the reduced GHG emissions of the project
  • Support external validations and verifications 
  • Intensive collaboration with partners from the Lao government, NGOs, private sectors and civil society
  • Networking with other REDD projects and donors 


  • Advanced university degree in forestry or related discipline 
  • At least 5 years relevant working experience
  • Substantial experience in the development and implementation of forest carbon projects 
  • Familiarity with institutional strengthening of park administrations and law enforcement and patrolling
  • Expertise in developing alternative income generating opportunities and promoting sustainable livelihoods in buffer zones around protected areas
  • Know-how in baseline setting, carbon monitoring, GIS, and remote sensing technologies
  • Work experience in Laos or Greater Mekong Region (preferably)
  • Good interpersonal, socio-cultural and leadership skills
  • Flexibility, ability to work independently
  • Excellent command of English, knowledge of German preferred
  • Knowledge of Lao Language would be an asset

Duration: 27 months from 1.4.2014, full-time, fixed contract
