How to compare the biodiversity lost through the mining activity with gains through the proposed offset?

Biodiversity Offsets:

This synthesis paper is aimed at industry managers and executives in the mining industry. It takes a practical approach to biodiversity offsets and makes it accessible to practitioners. This report offers a thorough summary of biodiversity offsets and why the mining industry might want to consider using them more extensively. It follows a joint IUCN-ICMM workshop held in which participants agreed to explore the use of biodiversity offsets in recognition that there may be a point at which investment in biodiversity offsets provides greater social, environmental and economic benefits than trying to mitigate all impacts.
